Building better people through martial arts training
Helping to create a safer and more harmonious community
We value Respect: We expect instructors and students to all treat each other with the utmost of respect. Respect is the foundation of all healthy relationships. Without respect, the teacher cannot teach, the student cannot learn, teams cannot support and encourage one another, and families cannot grow strong. We value Learning: The martial arts are constantly evolving. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, our base discipline, is no exception. Jiu Jitsu is extremely technical and is also changing every day. If you enjoy learning new things, you will enjoy learning the complex art of Jiu Jitsu. We value Patience: Kids need patience to succeed in school and sports, and we all need it to succeed in relationships. As with achieving most great things in life, the martial arts take a significant amount of time to progress in and master. Our students DO NOT progress though our belt structure quickly and new students will not defeat our experienced students on day 1. By really focusing on learning the techniques, then being disciplined enough to drill the techniques repeatedly, only then will students improve their performance and advance through the belt structure. We value Control: By learning control, people are able to make appropriate decisions and respond to stressful situations in positive ways. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu teaches us to control ourselves physically and emotionally. Sometimes, we are being placed in an uncomfortable position which leads to us to submit to our opponent. We learn to not to get upset about ?tapping out? (submitting) to our opponent, since this is part of the learning process. On the flipside, when we are forcing our opponents to tap out, we need to show great control so as to not injure our training partners. We value Integrity: Integrity means doing the right thing even in the toughest of situations. People of great integrity are always honest with each other and themselves. They also hold themselves to high personal standards. At Great White Martial Arts, we encourage our students to articulate their personal standards and to set goals. Subsequently, our job is to help them achieve their goals. You show integrity when your positive actions lead to achieving your goals.
